The Prohibition of Cheating

This article was written to qualify my speaking mid-term test. It is also to train my formal writing. I hope in my deepest heart, people are not going to cheat again after read this article. 

First of all, I would like to say thank God who has given so much pleasure that I am able to attend this meeting. Then, I would like to call your attention to hear my speech. Let me begin by saying Basmalah and will be continued by reciting Al-Qur’an surah Thaha verse 25-28.

For two weeks ahead, we are going to face mid-term test. Some of collage students are trying to study hard because of getting the best score. Unfortunately, a few of them are not. Instead of studying, they choose hangout with their friends or even just sleep all day long. As a result, when mid-term test comes, they rely on their friends’ answer. What do you think of this kind of friends? Are you willing to be cheated by your friends? How if your friends’ score is higher than yours? What do you feel? I do know that mid-term test is not about who gets the best or the worst score. It is actually about how far you understand the lessons whether the results are good or bad, the most important thing is you have done your best. Today, In this good oppurtunity , I would like to comment on the problem of cheating.

As in surah Al-Maidah verse 2 said,

وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ

“And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.”

It is quite clear that surah Al-Maidah verse 2 bans us to misbehave. If I could back to the main point of my speech, cheating is kind of misconduct. Misconduct is same as sin because it includes a small sin. However, it will be such a big sin if we do it continously. I might add that we should not help our friends during exam. Let them do it by themselves because it is not only to train their honesty, it is also to measure how understand they are with the lessons. If eventually we despised or even ostracized because of refusing to be cheated, do not worry! To be frank, if people habit’s cheats, then its cheats habit will form themselves. As an aphorism said “who plants, they will reap the reward later.” It is also strengthened in surah Al-Baqarah verse 9.

يُخَادِعُونَ اللَّهَ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلا أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ

“They (think to) deceive Allah and those who believe, while they only deceive themselves, and realise (it) not!”

I strongly recomended that people have to study hard if they want to do the test easily. Do not rely on the all ways to get answers. I used to cheat every biology test came or even just say I am not smart enough at biology until I realized that cheating made me not very smart because I couldn’t learn more which caused a lot of the ignorance of biology. Let me give an example until now it is hard for me to distinguish among symbiotic mutualism, komensalism or parasitism. It is because I always relied on my seatmate’s answer.

Well, if I could just sump up my speech there are three main points I would like to say. First, do not let anyone cheat your answer. They do know about mid-term test, so why they still do not study? Just ignore their whine because it is actually their faults. Second, let them know that mid-term test is about to measure how deep people understand the lessons or it is actually about how seriuos people heard lecturer’s lecture. If people failed in mid-term test, again , it means they would learn from the beginnning, don’t they? In another way, if they could pass the mid-term test because of cheating, they would never learn more about the misunderstand they have got which actually will effetcts their future. Third, cheating is kind of corrupt behavior which must be stopped and replaced with both honesty and study hard.

To be frank, I would like to give more illustrations about my worse experience in cheating. Unfortunately, the time is running which makes me have to finish my speech. Wouldn’t it be a very nice meeting? Hopefully you could take a lesson from my bad experience. Let me close my speech by saying wassamualaikum wr. wb
